Riders unable to impress on day one

Dreary weather conditions surrounded Jerez de la Frontera this morning as MOTUL FIM World Superbike riders took to the track once more for week two of winter testing in Spain.

Milwaukee Aprilia made their full team debut this week with new riders Eugene Laverty and Lorenzo Savadori, getting as much time out of the opening day of testing as possible. Unable to work on the full 2017 machine, they have been ensuring they can build a strong team rapport. The pair spent a lot of time out on track together in order to understand how the Aprilia worked, even in tough conditions.

Kawasaki Racing Team weren’t seen out on track for the opening day in Andalucía, as they felt they had nothing to learn in the wet and windy conditions. Hoping to work on suspension as well as test changes made in Aragon last week, the 2016 Manufacturers Champions are awaiting brighter conditions in order to make the most out of track time ahead of the winter testing ban.

Nicky Hayden (Honda World Superbike Team) suffered a blow to his winter regime sustaining an injury during flat-track training in Spain last week, putting the American out of action until 2017. Marking the first time out on the wet for Stefan Bradl (Honda World Superbike Team), the former MotoGP ™ rider was able to use the time to understand how the Pirelli’s work in the different conditions.

It was the first day of winter testing for Althea BMW, and they spent it testing a different swing arm for 2017 which should be more adjustable with the S 1000 RR. The pair of Jordi Torres and Markus Reiterberger were able to get some lap times out in the rain, at the track Torres (Althea BMW) secured a podium at back in 2015. On top of Superbike riders the Althea squad had Marco Faccani out on-track aboard the STK1000 machine, on which he suffered an off but both rider and bike were ok.

WorldSBK testing action resumes at 10am Local Time tomorrow, with hope of better conditions for riders.
